Biography” There’s a certain unnerving juxtaposition about Cedric Arnold’s photography. There is an obvious potency, or aggression – men standing in various stages of undress, stoic, staring, unblinking; yet there is a reverence or calm that provides depth and intrigue.” - January Art Magazine “Arnold’s powerful, yet sensitive portraits present a mystical subculture through its rituals, and symbols; a chest etched with a fierce leaping tiger, a hand adorned with images of geckos on each finger, a back protected by a monkey God, or a shoulder inscribed with ancient Khmer text…” - Wayne Ford French / British photographer Cedric Arnold, was born in 1976 in the UK. It was while studying history at the University of Paris that he first took up photography and filmmaking, taking courses in documentary filmmaking and spending hours in the darkroom. He began his career based in London & Belfast and later moved to Bangkok. In his personal work, Cedric is often drawn towards exploring the markings of time, this can be in the subject matter itself or expressed with the medium he uses: out of date film, old instant film, or even through chemically altering prints and emulsion. Cedric’s work is part of private, institutional and museum collections such as the SOAS and British Library Collections. He lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand.
